ITAR Training

The USA have very heavy controls on some of their goods; incorrect end-use of certain US technology can lead to fines and penalties and ultimately being denied the right to trade with USA businesses – whether based in the USA or not.  ITAR – the USA International Traffic in Arms Regulations – are the regulations outlining the export controls in place in the USA on the export, re-export and re-transfer of ITAR products and ITAR technology.  ITAR relates to the defence industry and within ITAR you will find the Munitions List (USML Categories).  The USA also has strict controls on end destinations (end-use) for USA goods and USA technology, especially if you are a US owned company.  Along with ITAR controls we have to consider the regulations on embargoed and sanctioned countries and financial controls from such bodies as the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Department of Treasury (with their “designated parties” controls) and the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC).

S&H LLP training explains what ITAR is, which products and technology is controlled and looks at how ITAR affects UK and EU businesses.  The main focus of the training is on the US Re-export Regulations, Extra-territoriality controls – which we could called the ITAR Virus - Commodity Jurisdictions (CJ and electronic CJ) and the use of US licences issued by the Department of State, eg DSP5, DSP61, DSP73 and other State Department documents related to the control of ITAR goods, eg DSP83, TAA, MLA, WDA and the Transfer Technology Control Plan (TTCP).
