The Bribery Act 2010

Posted on: 26/10/2010

Though the Bribery Act 2010 received Royal Assent on 8 April 2010 it is not expected to come into force in spring 2011. The Act reforms the criminal law to provide a new, modern and comprehensive scheme of bribery offences that will enable courts and prosecutors to respond more effectively to bribery in the UK and overseas. In spring 2011, the Government intend to publish guidance about procedures that commercial organisations can put in place to prevent persons associated with them from bribing. Further details about the Act are published on the Ministry of Justice website at: http://www.justice.gov.uk/publications/bribery-bill.htm and a copy of the full consultation paper “Consultation on guidance about commercial organisations preventing bribery (Section 9 of the Bribery Act 2010)” is available at http://www.justice.gov.uk/consultations/briberyactconsultation.htm
