Overview of UCC changes

Posted on: 14/01/2015

In just over 12 months the biggest change to EU Customs Regulations in over 20 years comes into force.  These changes will affect all companies that trade internationally as it affects in a greater or less way all current customs regulations including the storage of goods and the customs valuation rules.
This is, of course, the implementation of the Union Customs Code (UCC) on the 1st May 2016.
Strong & Herd LLP (S&H) are running special workshop sessions in London and Manchester in collaboration with HM Revenue & Customs(HMRC)  to ensure that our clients are aware of these changes and can plan for any that have a significant impact on their everyday business activities.
Perhaps the most significant areas the UCC will impact is

  • Companies who use Inward Processing Relief (IP) and Customs Warehousing (CW) procedures.  These will become very distinct procedures with the storage of goods only permitted in the CW facility thereby reducing the time approved to through put IP goods
  • The introduction of mandatory bank guarantee for all companies using a duty relief procedure and moving duty unpaid goods within the UK and the EU – though in some cases guarantee waivers will be available.
  • The introduction of a direct link between different procedures and simplifications and the compliance and security record of the business, in other words whether your company is an Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) or not.

Because of the direct link to AEO approval, these special awareness workshops with HMRC will be run within two different sessions – one an overview while the second directly links the UCC changes to AEO.  In addition all other S&H training courses have been updated to include the relevance of UCC:

  1. What’s New: the UCC special – learn all you need to know about the changes, and
  2. Understanding AEO Approval and the link with the UCC changes

These changes cannot be ignored.  We look forward to seeing you at one of our events this year – click on the relevant sections below for further information:
