The Gulf Countries introduce GCC Certification for low-voltage electrical equipment

Posted on: 17/02/2015

The GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Standardization Organization will introduce the new Gulf Technical Regulation for Low Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances (BD-142004-01). The new GCC scheme will be in force from 1 July 2016. This Technical Regulation lays down the mandatory requirements for the safety and electromagnetic compatibility, which all electrical equipment must comply before it’s placing on the market and then move freely within the member states markets.

The Gulf area includes United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Bahrain, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, State of Qatar, State of Kuwait and Republic of Yemen. The GCC scheme is already implemented for toys and will now be implemented for electrical equipment and appliances.

Equipment and phenomena outside the scope of this technical regulation are:
1. Electrical equipment for use in an explosive atmosphere
2. Electrical equipment for radiology and medical purposes
3. Electrical parts for goods and passenger lifts
4. Electricity meters
5. Electric fence controllers
6. Radio-electrical interference
7. Specialized electrical equipment, for use on ships, aircraft or railways, which complies with the safety provisions drawn up by International Bodies in which the Member States participate.
