Export Growth Falls Sharply, Sales to EU grow faster than to ROW

Posted on: 13/09/2018

The growth in UK exports has fallen sharply in 2018 compared to the previous year, according to government data released this week.
Exports to EU countries continued to grow faster than to the rest of the world.
In the period January to July, UK exports of goods were valued at £209.1 billion, an increase of 4.7% compared to the same period in July. But in the previous year, export growth over the same seven months had been 21%.
Exports to EU countries grew by 6% to £99.6 billion, while exports to the rest of the world grew by just 3.6% to £109.5 billion.

Export growth continues to outpace the growth in the economy as a whole, but the considerable fall in the pace of growth is likely to act as a brake on overall economic growth.
