Time to Act on Brexit

Posted on: 26/11/2018

As the political debates drag on and the outcome remains unclear, it’s time for all businesses to prepare for the impact of a possible no deal Brexit in just over four months.

“We are getting closer to the deadline and it’s crucially important to prepare for the impact,” said Tim Hiscock, International Trade Advisor at Strong and Herd. “While nothing is certain, the sooner your business prepares for the changes, the more options you will have.”

Strong and Herd have been working with clients old and new to ensure that they are “Brexit Ready.” Through a series of public training seminars and in-house training, we have helped companies of all sizes and from a wide range of sectors to prepare for the changes that are coming.

The most pressing issue for most businesses is the prospect of the UK leaving the EU without a deal on March 29th. In those circumstances, there would be no transition period, and trade with the rest of the EU will be subject to very different rules.

There are 140,000 UK businesses who trade internationally but only with other EU countries. They are going to be subject to new regulations and requirements, including export and import declarations that must be completed before the goods are cleared to leave or enter the country.

All trade with the EU would be subject to tariff charges, which people need to be aware of. There are steps that some businesses can take to mitigate the impact, but these take time to implement. And there are numerous other ways in which your supply chain may be affected. Don’t wait any longer.

Some feedback from recent events has underlined the importance of Brexit planning;

“Your knowledge and delivery of the content was first class. I feel confident I can help our business move forward with our planning strategy.”

It raised areas to consider when planning for BREXIT, which otherwise may be overlooked by the business and is relevant to all aspects of the business”.

“it has given me greater insight into the possible negative implications of a hard BREXIT.  This will help me to formulate a national mitigation plan”.

Strong and Herd are arranging Brexit Planning seminars in London and Manchester. Contact us for more details.
